This is just a word of thanks (delayed by a major systems failure last week) to all who took the trouble to respond to my query about redina.  It is now clear that Patricia Chaput has hit the nail on the head:

Redina appears to be a generic word for "loosely woven fabric," for which
there is no single word in English that covers all of the meanings.
