An unhappy rumor about Russian's critical language status: anyone out there know anything?

Dear All,

This policy refers to "bonus points" to applicants for foreign service
specialist positions in the U.S. Department of State who demonstrate a
certain level of proficiency on Foreign Service Institute-administered
tests (a 2 or a 3, depending on the language).

Go to the following URL and click on the link "Learn more" under
"Foreign Languages."

http://careers.state.gov/specialist/selection-process#nogo

Russian does, in fact, seem to be on the list of languages for which
applicants would receive bonus points. Other Slavic languages (but not
all) are on the list too.

Best regards,
Dianna
