Vowel breaking in Russian

Interesting.  I shall listen out for it.  To a native speaker of (British) English it is a little odd to come across the glottal stop as a feature of carefully pronounced speech.

Actually, there seems to be some literature on the web on the гортанная смычка in Russian.  It apparently can occur electively at word breaks and between vowels word-internally, esp. in emotional or carefully pronounced speech.  Notable, the most common reference to explain to the non-linguist the nature of the sound appears to be... "не-а".
