Ukraine/The Ukraine

Having been peripherally engaged in Polish-Ukrainian cultural affairs in the US at the Polish Cultural Institute for the past few years, I'd estimate that 3-4 years ago "w Ukrainie" was simply heard as an error in Polish, but now it is recognized as an assertion of a political stance, on the way to normalization in a few years.
