Teffi: a jeweller's tweezers

Dear all,

Can anyone make anything of this word «корцы»?  I had imagined it might be German, but I can't find it in my German-English dictionary. 

Расстилал на столе под лампой кусок черного бархата и длинными тонкими щипцами, которые он называл «корцы», вынимал из коробочки синие, зеленые, красные огоньки, раскладывал на бархате, рассматривал, рассказывал.
