John, I agree with you that it's a stretch, trying to connect these old Proto-Siouan and Proto-Algonquian terms for "golden eagle". Is the Proto-Siouan form analyzable? The Proto-Algonquian form seems to hint at the notion "high," but that's just a hint. :) Michael
