Dear Mark,

You are absolutely right. It is about Dadkhai in JK (constituency of
former CM of JK, Ghulam Nabi Azad). Interestingly, a group of doctors
from AIIMS, New Delhi is studying the prevalence of deafness at
Dadkhai (as reported in the Hindustan Times -- need to check the exact
date).

However, I mentioned "Silent Village" of Karnataka because many people
had come for fieldwork (like Debra Grossmann from UCB) for filming
deaf community in India, and for linguistic study. Infact, I was one
of them to go for a fieldwork in 2005 at the Village with Debra and
Ramakrishna, a deaf activist/teacher from Bangalore.

It is sharing the fact about the "Silent Village" of Karnataka.
For (false) claims about the village, visit projectdeafindia.org.

Moreover, I have already asked Dr. Desai about his "discovery of the
village" from US, and I had sent him a CD of my fieldwork through his
friend from Delhi. As expected, there is no reply from him. As far as
I know, Rotary Club is behind the hoax.

It is for this reason, I wrote the above trying to contextualise with
"silent village" in JK with "silent village" in Karnataka -- both in
India.
