Dear URA-LIST Community,

I seldom forward online petitions. This one, however, is about an issue which should interest all of us: the future of an endangered Uralic language. In Northern Norway, the politicians have decided to close down the school of Pyssyjoki/Børselva, the only school in the world where children still could learn the Kven language in a Kven environment. Moreover, the closing of the Solbråt old people’s home (where part of the personnel also speaks Kven) is being planned. The loss of the school and the old people’s home might mean the end of the Pyssyjoki Kven community.

Please join and sign the petition at
