*Assistant Professor in Hindi Language and Cultural Studies, University
of Florida*

The Asian Studies Program and Department of African and Asian Languages
and Literatures at the University of Florida invite applications for a
tenure-track position in Hindi Language and Cultural Studies beginning
August 2005.

Appointment is at rank of Assistant Professor. Specialization is open,
but may include literature, film and media studies, or other areas of
cultural studies. Expertise in critical theory, gender studies, or
postcolonial theory highly desirable. Proficiency in Urdu or other South
Asian languages is also a plus. Teaching load is 2-2, and
responsibilities will include courses in Hindi language and South Asian
culture (depending on candidate's area of expertise). Qualifications
include Ph.D. at time of appointment, native or near-native fluency in
Hindi, and ability to contribute to the intellectual life of an
expanding Asian Studies program. Successful applicants will demonstrate
excellent research and teaching potential. Salary very competitive.
