Just peeking around my library before I'm off to the Big Apple I found:

suck salt (Allsopp, _Dict of Caribbean English Usage_, Oxford 1996).
To suffer much hardship; to have a rough time {Dominica, Guyana,
Tobago, Trinidad}

man of salt (Farmer, _Slang & Its Analogues_, Arno (1890) 1970). a man
of tears.

salty (Oxf. Dict of Mod. Slang, Oxford 1992) adj. (2) angry; hostile;
to jump salty, to change one's mood suddenly; to become annoyed. 1938
