CB SLANGUAGE LANGUAGE DICTIONARY
I'll admit it--I didn't check these CB lingo books because I thought
Lighter and others had already gone through them.
For "Hot Lanta," for example, the RHHDAS has "1975 Dills CB _Hot Lanta_
Atlanta, Georgia." One would assume that the book (245 pages of slang) had
already been linguistically picked over.
It's probably the best of the many CB lingo books. The NYPL has the 1977
edition only:
THE OFFICIAL CB SLANGUAGE LANGUAGE DICTIONARY
by Lanie Dills
first edition 1975, first printing December 1975
1976 edition, first printing March 1976
1977 edition, first printing October 1976, second printing January 1977
Pg. 65: MISTAKE ON THE LAKE (THE): Cleveland, Ohio.
Pg. 144 CLEVELAND, OHIO
Dirty City
Iron Town
Mistake on the Lake
Smokey City West

MAYBE _THE NEW YORK TIMES_ WAS WAITING FOR _NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC_ BEFORE IT
COULD BELIEVE ME?
From NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER, October 1999, "The World's Greatest
Destinations--50 places of a lifetime," Special Collector's Issue, pg. 20:
In 1921, equestrian journalist John J. FitzGerald described New York
City as the "Big Apple" of the horse racing circuit--and the name stuck.
