One example/definition of the Chinese auction process is presented at:

At some other web sites, the bid tickets/coupons are placed into boxes.
I presume that the winning ticket/coupon is then drawn from a box. The
winning ticket which was drawn from the blue box could select from the
list of 'blue' prizes; the red box being associated with the list of
'red' prizes, and so on.
