Can anyone explain to me why south Louisianians (specifically New Orleanians)
sound like New Yorkers? (Or at least this is what people tell me, a native of
south Louisiana).

Also, I would like to do research on the Cajun French language, specifically,
its history, linguistic characteristics, and why it was discouraged in
Louisiana schools.  Can you direct me to any good references?
