A number of years ago (mid 1980's, possibly early 1980's), there was a
radio announcer on WJR in Detroit named Jimmy Lonce or Lontz or
something.  He had said "nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah" to his wife who was
born in Germany.  She too
had said that same expression as a child.  The listening audience
concluded that children all over the world say this same expression.

I've heard "ring around the rosy" goes back to the days of the Plague.
