From THE CZECHOSLAVAK COOKBOOK by Joza Brizova (1965; reissued by Crown Publishers, NY), pg. 150:

   CHRISTMAS TWIST
      VANOCKA
1 recipe Firm Yeast Dough I or II (see Index)
1 egg, beaten
2 tablespoons sliced Blanched Almonds (see Index)
confectioners' sugar
Knead prepared raised dough on lightly floured board. Divide into 3 large pieces and 5 smaller ones. Roll each piece into a long roll. Braid the 3 larger rolls loosely, and pinch ends together. Place on a well-buttered baking sheet. Braid 3 of the smaller rolls, pinch ends together, and place on the large braid. Twist the last 2 rolls together and place on top, tucking ends under the large braid. Cover with a cloth and let rise 1 to 1 1/2 hours in a warm place. Brush with egg and sprinkle with almonds. Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake for 30 to 45 minutes longer. Sprinkle with sugar.

(There is a recipe for "SALT ROLLS--HOUSKY" on page 146--ed.)
