     I just realized that I left this off the NYPL Menu list.
     The Hotel Netherland (NYC), 12 November 1896, under "Ice Cream"
(although not all the items here were purely ice cream):

Alaska...75
Pistache...25
Brownies...40

   Are these "brownies" as we now know them?
