hazelnuts/filberts

Wow!  Thanks for all the responses!  It seems clear that what I interpreted
as geographical was more a matter of chronology and context.  Since I was
in other parts of the country when I began hearing "hazelnut," I obviously
reached the erronious conclusion that people in those parts of the country
had always preferred that word.

And now an Oregon newspaper even writes of "hazelnut growers"!  There goes
the neighborhood!
