Caipirinha is made with a traditional Brazilian alcohol called cachaça,
which is made from sugar cane. It is a mixture of cachaça, limes, and
sugar. It really packs a wallop and in my opinion is undrinkable. I prefer
caipiroska - which, I learned from my former students from Brazil - is made
with Vodka instead. If you use white rum it is called caipiríssima.

All three are often included in the drink menus here in DC, mostly in the
culturally diverse area of Adams Morgan and especially at The Grill from
Ipanema - our local Brazilian place. If you're ever in town - try the fried
alligator appetizer with your Caipirinha.
