My mother's father drank his hot tea in a glass, and held it with his fingertips
touching the top and bottom rims - but a glass has a little insulation, a can
does not. Besides, the can is from a vending machine, in this case, in a train
station, meaning it's for travel. It's hard to hold a can with your fingertips
and travel.
