I've never been able to overcome my amusement when Spanish speakers in the US render "I have to go get groceries" as "Tengo que ir a por groserías". I can't help getting the image of a person deliberately parading past a construction site (in order to elicit those rude comments they need). This discussion of bodegas and grocerías is really helping me notice the limits of my objective, descriptive attitude!
