"midtown"

When I was a kid in the 30's in Lincoln NE, usage of "uptown" and
"downtown" was more class-based than related to actual location.  Blue
collar said "uptown" and white collar said "downtown"  though they lived
side by side and both referred to the main business district. Possibly a
carryover from an earlier generation when it might have reflected the
actual location of neighborhoods.  I never heard "midtown" used in
connection with Lincoln.
