midtown

The several instances of midtown (other than in NYC) in my experience have
all been the coinage of real estate developers or business owners trying to
find a name for commercial developments in previously non-commercial areas of
a city or town:
"Midtown Mall" or "Midtown Dry Cleaners," etc.  Is there any evidence at all
that midtown (again, outside of NYC) has been used spontaneously like uptown
or downtown?
