The earliest on Nexis is the following:

1983 _N.Y. Times_ 21 Aug. [article beginning on page XI. 14]  Then there
was the game of tyring to hang onto the back bumper of a truck and riding
the bumper like a ski--"skitching," according to Van Patten.
