I think this only goes to show the degree to which US usage has turned "The
Rule" on its head, since it uses "shall" for the emphatic or as an
expression of determination, which _ought_ to belong to "will," acc. the
Rule.

"We shall see," I agree is a case in point, and I think wouldn't sound
forced or pretentious to US ears.
I myself might be heard using "shall" at times, but my speech is hardly
pure anything, since reading and travel and living have put me in touch
with too many different dialects to be quite sure who I am any more.  (I
would not say, "anymore I say such and such," though, under any
circumstances..)
