I'm one of those who grew up thinking it was
'nucular', that it was a different word from
'nuclear'. In my foggy memory, I even recall seeing
'nucular' in print in newspapers, and in magazines
such as 'Life': is this false memory, or was 'nucular'
for a period of time an accepted spelling?
