IBM AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

You "dwarfs" fans might be interested in the NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE, 3 January 1965, section 3, pg. 1, col. 1:

With the exception of General Electric, whose computer division is still minor in its overall structure, the stocks of IBM and the "seven dwarfs," as its competitors are known, are trading at or near their lows of the year.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

From obituaries of the NEW YORK HERALD TRIBUNE, 4 January 1965, pg. 14, col. 5:

_FRANK M. STEVENS, OF THE BALLPARK HOTDOG STEVENSES_
(...) One chilly spring day at the Polo Grounds in 1904, ice cream and lemonade went begging because of the cold, and Mr. Stevens sent his men out to (Col. 6--ed.) buy red sausages and rolls to avert financial catastrophe.
The sausages were boiled, the rolls were split, the mustard was applied, and Mr. Stevens told his men:
"Here they are. Now go out and sell them. Say, 'Get 'em while they're hot.'"
In the stands that day was Thomas A. (TAD) Dorgan, the cartoonist, now deceased. With his crayon, he immortalized the Stevens men peddling their new merchandise and because he couldn't spell dachshund, labeled it "hotdogs." The expression (Col. 7--ed.) became a household phrase, and the Stevens fortunes soared.
