hot dog

     The various ADS-L messages on "hot dog" clarify that the time has
come for me to compile the material I have on this term. Due credit
will of course be given throughout the book, which will have Barry
Popik, David Shulman and me listed as the authors. Also, the
pioneering work on the late Peter Tamony deserves special recognition.

      I'm currently involved with a few other projects but will start
work on "hot dog" next month. The project is a big one, and I make no
predictions except that I should have some progress to show by the
end of the summer.

      One gap I still have in the research is to explain "hot dog" in
reference to a show-off. I've looked at this a bit but still don't
feel comfortable with what I have. I know that "hot dog" (show off)
is apparently traceable to the  hot-dog surf board but am not clear
just why "hot dog" was applied to this  board.
