I have received the following query about "the creek/Creek don't
rise"; I think an ADS-L message once mentioned that the original
reference was to the Creek Indians, but I somehow can't locate it in
the archives. Might someone be able to verify the Indian reference?
> What do you know about the origin of the expression "the Lord
>willing and the creek (or creeks) don't rise." I had always assumed
>that it referred to high water, but someone suggested that it refers
>to the Creek Indian Nation in Alabama and Georgia before their
>removal under Andrew Jackson's administration. I haven't found out
>anything about it. Can you? Or do you know right off the bat?
