"New Yorker" and "Empire State"

   I told him (forwarded e-mail below) that I found an earlier "New Yorker" in the PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE disc.  It was posted on ADS-L in 1998 or so.
   However, maybe he could use a George Washington citation on "Empire State"?  Does Fred Shapiro have it?  I think it goes: "New York is the seat of the Empire..."  I don´t have it handy in Iceland.
