"Shrek" anachronisms

Uhhhh....

I haven't been following this thread closely, and I haven't seen "Shrek."

But, based on what I have heard about "Shrek," aren't the anachronisms part of
its shtick, maybe even a big part of its premise? Sorta like the TV series "Xena"
and "Hercules"?

Now, the question of whether American society has been so dumbed-down that most
people don't get the joke is another matter.
