Condensed network news: a trend?

Guy from the Jim Lehrer newshour calls. Says they're working on a story. They
notice news reports on TV are shorter, staccato headlines, brief stories: not
the essays of yore. More like sound bites.
Anyone studied this? Any deep thoughts? I have none, but I said I'd check
with ADS-L. I'll happily pass along to the Lehrer folks your insights, or
your phone number.
