Speaking of "fuchsia" and misspellings and mispronunciations thereof, I
fortuitously just came across this, on the website of Lindsey Davis, who is
the author of an excellent and enjoyable series of historical mysteries
about Marcus Didius Falco, a PI (private informer) in Vespasian's Rome:

     New house may have been built in 1706. Queen Anne. This is
     seriously scary even in Britain. Its garden wall, being part of
     Greenwich Royal Park, was built by King James II... You have to
     think twice before nailing up a bird's nestbox or a basket of
     fushcias.
