   MANAS.  Sorry.  In 1995, they celebrated 1000 years of the national epic.
   Kirghiz is indeed in the OED.  But NO ONE here spells it that way.  There is a significant American presence here--there is an American University of Kyrgyztan in Bishkek.
   Yes, Kyrgyz might not have made it in the OED for 1989, but it's a country and a language, and the OED has ADDITIONS.
   Gotta go.
