Names of God

Years ago, when I was teaching Arabs English, one of my students showed me
a kind of rosary with ninety-nine beads.  He told me that there was one
bead for each of the ninety-nine names of God.

I also learned that the names of God show up often as men's names, like
Gamal, which, as I recall, means "victorous."

Any bearing on the current discussion of Allah?
