So, for that matter, was Vincent Price, but although his diction was
considered to be exemplary of American Standard, I don't know that it sheds
much light on the special features of St. Louis speech.
[My mother (b. 1905) was a St. Louis native, but her speech showed none of
the features described in Gordon's post.]
