No they don't Barry. The final 'l' in "pedal" is not 'l'; it's
barred-l (pronounced like a "w' in English. (That's why the bicycle
etymology your siily guide gave you was was so glupy. ("Glupy" also
with barred-l, meaning "dumb.")
