The word appears to be "bulldyke" or "bulldyker." People named "Van Dyke"
are likely suspects.
I found a Lieutenant Colonel "Rush Van Dyke." He served in the 26th
Pennsylvania Regiment in the Civil War. He was part of Hooker's Army. He
served in the Battle of Bull Run.
We should expect to see a "Bull Run Rush Van Dyke" that was later
shortened to "bulldyke."
Just another "bulldyke" theory to possibly consider. Some of the others
seem ludicrous.
