A linguistically interesting novel

"To Say Nothing of the Dog" is comic in the sense that "Doomsday Book" is tragic.  I cannot recommend these two books too highly as thoughtful science fiction.  I found the first 15 or 20 pages of "Dog" a little bewildering, but for the right reasons in retrospect.
