My first response is: Use a better search engine, such as Google. My second
response is: Used the advanced pane of MSN Search.

Using these methods, there is no apparent discrepancy in the hits returned
on the gendered search terms.

Google:

spokesman: 2,110,00 ; spokeswoman: 556,000
chairman: 7,640,000 ; chairwoman: 140,000
etc.

MSN Advanced Search:

spokesman: 1,167,334 ; spokeswoman: 373,029
chairman: 3,942,588 ; chairwoman: 80,538
etc.
