I believe the example is false, or at least not verifiable. I think some
legitimate generally-accepted African derivations (not just
"African-American" but presumably via African-Americans) can be cited:
"okra", "gumbo", "goober", "voodoo", "buckra", probably some better ones
which I haven't thought of.
