According to a newspaper article today,
"For most anything else [in Cuba], there's the black market, known to
shoppers as buying "on the right" and to dealers as "the finger"---for what
suppliers wag threateningly at those who don't pay up for the merchandise."
I have been told that in the Soviet Union, similar situations were known as
"on the left".
Hmmm.
