For any English teacher, currently teaching who never had a course in
language, or teacher-in-training, I would recommend Walt Wolfram, Carolyn Temple
Adger, and Donna Christian's Dialects in Schools and Communities (1999, Lawrence
Erlbaum Associates).   It is geared more toward educators than Wolfram and
Schilling-Estes, and is very accessible to the non-linguist.
