Is it? He came up with the pun, but it's consistent with the dubbing
ceremony that even if Peter was so-called because he was the rock
upon which Jesus founded his church, the name itself might have
predated its use for Simon. In fact, if it *was* a pun (as I always
imagined), it works better if "Peter" (or Petros, or whatever the
Aramaic equivalent was) already existed as an ...um...Christian name.
