DARE has "New England (boiled) dinner" from 1896. It is "Also _boiled
New England dinner_, _New England stew_." I had found a slightly earlier "New
England boiled dinner," in 1892.
I think it should be "(New England) boiled dinner," and not "New England
(boiled) dinner." The place name usually gets applied last. For example, the
earliest citations for "Buffalo wings" are Buffalo citations for "chicken
wings." The food becomes popular, and then the regional association is added.
These citations are from the online WRIGHT AMERICAN FICTION, 1851-1875.

Pg. 10: "Here," said she, leading him to her pantry, "we had boiled dinner
to-day, and Capt. Sealove don't set much by it, he has had so much of that sort
at sea, so its about all left. I know Mary has had no time to cook to-day
and will be glad of it." With these words she placed in the basket some
excellent boiled beef and pork, with (Pg. 11--ed.) all the accompaniments which go
to make up what Yankees call boiled dinner, such as cabbage, potatoes, turnips,
squash, and a boiled Indian dumpling.
