Perhaps the surface conflicts are bobbing on a much broader and deeper
ocean of problem, which is that no coheren't position has been
presented, or rather represented by the  publisher/editor. The notions
of Language or language, variety, variation, etc., etc. have been
noticeably elided.  Vocabula doesn't embody or propound or etc.
prescriptivism or prescriptiveness, standard language/variety/dialect,
nor standardization. Am I alone in being still in the dark as to what
the publisher means by "English" (or even American English)?
