TURNPIKE CAKE--In the GENESEE FARMER AND GARDENER'S JOURNAL(American Periodical Series), 16 August 1834, pg. 259, "...then add two or three small yeast or turnpike cakes, to set the mass."
HILL BILLY--Again, a horse by the name is in the earliest citations in the BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE, starting from 19 November 1896, pg. 10, and continuing for another twenty citations to 1902.
(FWIW: The "Hillbillies" are returning to tv? Why????--ed.)
