LINGUISTICS AND LANGUAGE BEHAVIOR ABSTRACTS--Columbia gets this database.
Check it out at www.columbia.edu (click on Library, then databases A-Z).
I'll perform limited queries from this database on request.
AMERICAN FILM SCRIPTS ONLINE--Columbia University now subscribes. I'll tell
you about the first "F-Word" on screen later today. Keep in mind that film
speech goes back only to the talkies, or the 1930s. And film speech isn't
the greatest to research--there's a lot of KISS KISS BANG BANG. Meanwhile,
back at the ranch...
ENGINEERING VILLAGE 2--The good thing is that this new database has U.S.
Patent Office records. The bad thing is that it goes back only to 1976, so
no "chad."
EMPIRE ON LINE--NYU has this under its "trial databases." The idea is good.
Remember all those explorers' journals I was researching? Puit 'em all
online. Good idea. However, this database seems to exclude North America,
and it has very, very few journals so far. A check for "tomato" returned
nothing. A check for "food" yielded these meager results (nine total
documents?):
