Nunberg on "curl up with a good book"

Nunberg pronounced the first syllable of Barry's name like 'pope'. Is this the vowel the "word sleuth" prefers? I had always said it to myself as "pop" as in the god-given name for carbonated beverages.

Nice Geoff Nunberg piece on NPR's "Fresh Air" today, ruminating on the
phrase "curl up with a good book". Geoff credits Barry Popik with finding
the first known citation.
