"golf clap"

I first heard the phrase in the movie "Men at Work" (1990), in which either
Charlie Sheen or his brother Emilio Estevez (both star) use the phrase
exactly as described below -- a sarcastic, quite applause for something they
observe.

I'm not familiar with this term, but I'm guessing that it means the
kind of quiet, polite applause that spectators at golf tournaments
employ to avoid disturbing the players.
