"Paris Hilton" quote on a woman's animals (mink, jaguar, tiger) (1991)

Tiffany, why is it degrading to women for professionals to examine the origins of a cleverly cynical phrase widely - and falsely - credited to a flash-in-the-pan, manufactured celebrity whose press agents feel that claiming she said it is one way to keep her in the public eye?

Regardless of who said it, surely you don't think that anybody's attitude or behavior is going to be affected by a joke ?  Was yours ?  Were your friends' ?  It's a bon mot and no more.

In theory, the remark is even more "degrading" to men.  Most men, including rich ones, are not really "jackasses," any more than most women are Paris Hiton clones.

Give people credit. We're not programable with a smart one-liner.  That's why we run the computers and not the other way round !

I wonder why people in today's society look at quotes like the one made by Paris Hilton and even give it a consideration? I mean, it would be different if you were quoting Virginia Woolf or Jane Austen, but I think to quote someone like Paris Hilton, especially with a quote like that, is semi-degrading to women. She makes it sound as if that is the only thing women think about is materialistic things and I feel that is extremely wrong. Although I will agree that some women are merely "gold-diggers" that are numerous women in the world who are hard-working, family oriented and great people. I think we should just forget about quotes like the one mentioned here.
